THE ACCOUNTS OF THE DAY OF RESURRECTION -No:20- Punishment for Making Fun of the Believers and for Adopting a Double Faced Policy

Punishment for Making Fun of the Believers and for Adopting a Double-Faced Policy.

The Quran strongly condemns making fun of believers and adopting a double-faced policy. Verses in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:11-12) forbid mockery, defamation, and backbiting among believers, emphasizing unity and respect.

O believers! Do not let some ˹men˺ ridicule others; they may be better than them, nor let ˹some˺ women ridicule other women; they may be better than them. Do not defame one another, nor call each other by offensive nicknames. How evil it is to act rebelliously after having faith! And whoever does not repent, it is they who are the ˹true˺ wrongdoers. O  believers! Avoid many suspicions, ˹for˺ indeed, some suspicions are sinful. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of your dead brother? You would despise that!1 And fear Allah. Surely Allah is ˹the˺ Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.

 [Surah Al-Hujurat/49: Ayat11-12]

Additionally, the Quran addresses hypocrisy and the consequences of insincere behavior, particularly in Whenever a sûrah is revealed, they look at one another, ˹saying,˺ “Is anyone watching you?” Then they slip away. ˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ has turned their hearts away because they are a people who do not comprehend, highlighting that such actions will be held accountable.

"Do they not see that they are tried once or twice every year?1 Yet they neither repent nor do they learn a lesson. Whenever a sûrah is revealed, they look at one another, ˹saying,˺ “Is anyone watching you?” Then they slip away. ˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ has turned their hearts away because they are a people who do not comprehend."

Here's a more detailed look:

Making Fun of Believers:

O believers! Do not let some ˹men˺ ridicule others, they may be better than them, nor let ˹some˺ women ridicule other women, they may be better than them. Do not defame one another, nor call each other by offensive nicknames. How evil it is to act rebelliously after having faith! And whoever does not repent, it is they who are the ˹true˺ wrongdoers.

[Surah Al-Hujurat (49:11)]

"O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule women, perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not [sincerely] repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers."

Emphasis on Respect:

This verse emphasizes that believers should not mock or insult each other, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and understanding within the Muslim community. The use of nicknames, especially those intended to demean, is also prohibited.

Consequences of Disobedience:

The verse also warns against disobedience after embracing faith, emphasizing the importance of repentance and turning away from such harmful behavior.

Double-Faced Policy (Hypocrisy):

Do they not see that they are tried once or twice every year?1 Yet they neither repent nor do they learn a lesson.Whenever a sûrah is revealed, they look at one another, ˹saying,˺ “Is anyone watching you?” Then they slip away. ˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ has turned their hearts away because they are a people who do not comprehend.

Surah At-Tawbah (9:126-127)

These verses describe the hypocrisy of those who turn away from the Quran and its guidance. They show a lack of sincerity and an unwillingness to learn from the trials and tribulations sent by God.

Hypocrisy and Accountability:

The verses highlight that those who adopt a double-faced policy, pretending to believe while harboring disbelief, will ultimately face the consequences of their actions.

Turn Away from Guidance:

The verses emphasize that those who turn away from the Quran and its guidance are essentially turning away from God's mercy and protection.

Overall Perspective:

The Quran clearly condemns making fun of believers and adopting a double-faced policy. These actions are seen as violations of the principles of unity, respect, and sincerity that are fundamental to the Muslim faith. The Quran emphasizes that such behavior will be held accountable, and believers are encouraged to strive for genuine faith, mutual respect, and sincere repentance.

Hadrat Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made the following observation ‘A door of heaven will be opened and a certain man will be called. As the man approached near the door, it was closed. Then the man will be called from the other door. That door will also be shut as the approaching near. until the man leaves in disappointment.” (Bathagi).

Such is the punishment of the man who used to make fun of others and used to deceive them.

2. Hadrat Abu Huraira reports a tradition that the beloved Apostle of God observed: ‘‘The double-faced man is the worst of all. He wears one face to one man and then shows a different face to another j one.” (Malik, Bukhari, Muslim). f g. It has been reported by Hadrat Sa‘id b. i Abi Waqqas that the Apostle of God (peace and blessings of Allah be-upon him) observed: ‘The double-faced man who says one thing to a person and quite another to some other person, will -have two mouths on the Day of Doom and both his mouths will be flame.” (Tibrani).

4. According to a tradition reported by Abu Dawud : ‘For this man Fire shall have two tongues.
