Depth of Hell

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Musa Ash‘ari رضي الله عنه that  Rasulullahﷺ, describing the depth of Hell, remarked: If a stone is thrown into Hell, it will take seventy years to reach its bottom.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that they were sitting in the blessed company of Rasulullahﷺ when they heard something falling. The Apostle of Allah (Rasulullahﷺ) observed: ‘‘Do you know what it is ?”’ We (the companions) respectfully replied: ‘‘Allah and his Apostle know best.” The Prophet observed: ‘‘It is the noise produced by a stone that was dropped by  Allahﷻ into Hell some seventy years before, and it has touched the ground now.”
