THE ACCOUNTS OF THE DAY OF RESURRECTION -No:23 - Three Persons Shall not Enter Paradise

Three Persons Shall not Enter Paradise

Hadrat Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) observed: “Three men shall never enter Paradise: one, who has no idea of self-respect; second, a drunkard; third, a man who adopts the manner of women.”

Several authentic Hadiths state that certain types of people will not enter Paradise, or at least not immediately, due to the severity of their sins. Common hadiths mentioning three such individuals include:

The one who disobeys his parents, the drunkard, and the one who reminds others of his charity/good deeds.

The stubborn drunkard, the one who hates family ties, and the believer in magic.

These warnings emphasize major sins in Islam and the need for repentance.

Specific Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned specific groups of three people who will not enter Paradise in various narrations:

Disobedience, Alcoholism, and Boasting: In one hadith, Abdullah ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying: "Three persons will not enter Paradise: one who disobeys his parents, a drunkard, and one who reminds others of his charity".

Intoxication, Kinship Ties, and Belief in Magic: Another narration from Abu Musa states the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Three will not enter Paradise: the stubborn drunkard, the one who sever family ties, and the believer in magic".

Lack of Protective Jealousy, Imitating the Opposite Sex, and Alcoholism: Other narrations mention a variation: "the dayyuth (a man who has no protective jealousy over his female folk/does not care about his wife's chastity), the woman who resembles a man (in dress or behavior), and the one addicted to alcohol".

Meaning of the Warning

These hadiths serve as a strong warning against certain actions considered major sins in Islam. The phrase "will not enter Paradise" can indicate several potential outcomes depending on scholarly interpretation:

They may face a period of punishment in Hell before eventually being allowed into Paradise if they were believers.

It signifies the extreme severity of the sin, potentially leading to permanent exclusion if the person dies without repentance and without true faith (e.g., if their actions constitute belief, such as believing magic has power independently of Allah).

Ultimately, all Muslims will enter Paradise except those who refuse (by disobeying the Prophet's guidance), and entry into Paradise is by Allah's mercy alone, not solely by one's deeds.

Abdullah ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Three persons will not be looked upon by Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection: one who disobeys his parents, a woman who imitates men, and a man who allows his woman to fornicate. Three persons will not enter Paradise: one who disobeys his parents, a drunkard, and one who ignores others of his charity."
